Laura & Thomas’ English Garden Wedding

We we’re absolutely honoured to be part of Laura & Thomas’ English garden wedding, they were an delight to work with, showed a true and honest passion for our input into their big day. It was of sort a flagship opportunity for us to flex our muscles. Here’s a beautiful account, from the bride herself…

I was lucky enough to secure Rich and the CURA team for my wedding in September, 2014. Marrying a Frenchman, excellent food was key to the celebration and CURA did not disappoint. Rich did a great job in understanding our thoughts and expanding on them, then making a few changes following the tastings. No detail was too small for Rich to take an interest in or try to improve, which as a bride who had issues giving over control was much appreciated! Since we had guests flying in from 6 continents, many of whom had been to numerous weddings this year already we really wanted to serve them something special but in keeping with the English country estate setting.

Seasonal and fresh was key, nothing too heavy to ensure people were light footed enough to dance, and avoiding the standard smoked salmon followed by dry chicken wedding food. We also wanted to show off some great British ingredients to the French! Rich also took a keen interest in our wine choices to ensure the food complimented these. We chose a selection of 4 delicious canapés including trout which Rich smoked himself, and a beautiful rolled Aberdeen Angus beef with a lovely pistachio crust. The starter of a light seasonal squash soup was a perfect choice given we were unsure in September if it would be an Indian summer or a cold autumnal day. This was complimented with British sourdough from E5 bakery in London, with Normandy salted butter for an French British fusion. The main was a stunning shoulder of lamb served on platters in the centre of the tables. Rich suggested the staff hand out a chef’s hat per table for someone to serve which was such fun and got all the tables talking. Given I have Austrian family roots, a Sachertorte was a great suggestion and “perfectly made” according to my Austrian father.

Rich also kindly helped with the event organisation and logistics of the day, including the staff, crockery hire, contacting the band and other suppliers to ensure everything was perfectly executed.

This was an absolute life saver and gave me space to enjoy the day without worrying that I had to be the contact point for anyone. I couldn’t recommend Rich and his team at CURA highly enough if you are looking for a caterer and events organiser to really make your day memorable to all involved.
